Any thoughts for reading or resources

I’ve been asked to prepare a note for my non-private-client colleagues on the effect of death on their cases (e.g. acting for deceased claimants, releasing funds if a client dies, that sort of thing).

Any thoughts on where I can “read around” the topic generally would be gratefully received.

Kessler is always a good shout as is Parry and Kerridge Law of Succession as that’s a Uni text.

Maybe the two combined you would find helpful?

Best wishes

Since I retired I have had to be more creative in keeping up at sensible cost. Student textbooks are still excellent value.

I recommend the Law of Succession by Richard Hedlund and Wills, Administration and Taxation by Barlow King and King.

Even when practising I found very useful and value for money the “A practitioners Guide to…” series published by Wildy. I have Wills, Probate, Probate Disputes, and Inheritance Act Claims. These are hardbacks under £100 each. New editions seem to be due this year. Wills is out and Claims next month. Disputes is 2022 though Probate is regrettably 2018. A new edition is overdue like much of the work of the Probate Service

I also commend highly Moffat’s Trust Law, though 2020.

I would be interested in seeing your note once prepared if you felt inclined to share

Thanks @slias. Yes, I expect some, perhaps most, of it will be suitable for sharing outside the firm. So far though I’ve written the chapter/section on releasing funds when a litigation client dies, which is so tied-in to our internal policies that I don’t think sharing would be considered appropriate. The suggestions I’ve received in this thread have been a bit too general and (knowing that almost no-one reads TDF threads that are more than a couple of days old) I might start a new question.
