Appointment of Solicitors practice as Executor

My previous firm of which I was one of the directors merged with my current firm early last year. I am an employee in my current firm. In a will that I drew up for a client at my previous firm, my client appointed my previous firm (or the firm that has succeeded it as at date of death) to be joint Executors with his daughter. The client died before the merger and so my current firm was not the successor practice as at the client’s date of death. My previous firm is closed so far as the SRA is concerned although its legal entity as a company still exists and I am still one of the directors. My questions is - who is entitled to applied for the Grant?
