Asset Repatriation - Guyana

I am currently acting for the PR’s of a English domiciled estate where the deceased held assets in his birth country of Guyana.

I have been informed by one of the asset holders that the English probate received must be re-sealed in Guyana but have no knowledge of the process in Guyana myself or the general process to repatriate the assets after re-sealing.

I understand the UK embassy holds a list of English speaking solicitors in Guyana but make no recommendation as to their suitability, which makes it extremely hard to select a suitable solicitor.

I wonder then, on the off chance, whether any members of the forum have had experience repatriating assets in Guyana and/or could recommend persons/firms to assist? (I note unfortunately there does not appear to be any STEP members in Guyana otherwise that would have been a first port of call!)

Thanks in advance.

Dear Joseph,
Join the club for difficulty!. We do not have a contact in Guyana.
We do find that the local Bar Association will list local lawyers sometimes by category.
Also there are large referral “clubs” such as Ally Law.
Google will also refer you to various lawyer advertising sites which can be grouped into areas such as probate lawyers.
Our experience is to write by e-mail to 6 different lawyers and see who replies with the best information and then proceed from there.
I wish we could be more helpful, but we will be pleased to know who you use in due time.
Yours sincerely,
Peter Double / Probate Resealing Services.
