Bank of America – Massachusetts Grant required

Referral or recommendation required for US (MA) probate.

We’re administering the estate of a deceased UK citizen, domiciled and resident in the UK, however for a time in life was employed in the US. The deceased held accounts with Bank of America and these accounts received pension benefits accrued from the US employment.

Sum involved is around £GBP30k – we have English Grant.

In addition to the Apostille of the death certificate and closing instructions, Bank of America require Massachusetts grant of probate to accept instructions to close the accounts and pay proceeds to us.

I would ask if there are any UK solicitors familiar with this process or indeed a referral to a lawyer in the US (MA) to arrange.

Thanks.

John.

Dear John,
We operate in the USA in various states, and are familiar with federal transfer certificates and the usual transfer processes to your Firm.
Strangely, we do not have a contact at this time in Massachusetts, but will make enquires and get back to you.
Yours sincerely

Dear John,

Further to our earlier reply, it has been suggested that as BOA has numerous branches in different states, that we obtain an Ancillary Grant in Ohio (it is a straight forward and fairly simple process) and then use the Ohio Grant with BOA in Massachusetts as under the local laws the Ohio Grant should be recognised in Massachusetts and so obtain the release of the monies for your deceased client.
If this route is of interest can you send us the details and copy letter from BOA and we will obtain a quote for the work from our Ohio lawyers.
Yours sincerely,
Peter Double / Probate Resealing Services

Dear Peter,
Thank you for your offer of assistance. In the time elapsed since our enquiry we have appointed a Boston based lawyer to act.
Thank you again.
John.
