Calls to OPG being cut off

I have tried several times recently to call the OPG with a query about an LPA registration. Each time, my call is placed in a queue, and at some point (even when I had just reached the front of the queue) my call is cut off. I would be reassured to know if this is happening to anyone else?

I don’t tend to get that repeatedly, but often once and then I get through the second time.

Andrew Baxter.

20 weeks to register an LPA. One wonders what how the not insignificant LPA application fees are spent…

Also finding more and more rejections for non-errors - e.g… a witness who crossed through part of their address to re-write it more clearly, being rejected back as “Donor has made a material amendment without initialling”. Quite appalling…

Neither my secretary nor I have ever succeeded in speaking to them on the phone. Like Graham Harvey, we find more and more are rejected and the OPG’s attitude appears to be that what they think is final. I have had more than one rejected because they alleged it had been signed in the wrong order when I knew that not to be the case. Why? Because they interpreted one numeral as another. I think the best one ever was the report on another forum that a solicitor had one rejected because the OPG said the date of signature was 1022.

yes very often its so frustrating and I also find that when emailing them it takes weeks to get a response.
Its appalling the number of times i get letters saying "signed in wrong order " how do they know ? or pages missing even though i know they are not as i scan before sending - just delay tactics and i agree with Graham Harvey what are the fees for? Lpa’s should take no more than 6 weeks max to be registered not nearly half a year its tragic

The recorded message on the Court of Protection number says that the call will be cut off in 20 minutes if it hasn’t been answered. It is. Imagine what our clients would say if we did the same - we wouldn’t have any left!

That’s unbelievable!

I mentioned above

“Also finding more and more rejections for non-errors - e.g… a witness who crossed through part of their address to re-write it more clearly, being rejected back as “Donor has made a material amendment without initialling”. Quite appalling…”

Now reporting back to confirm that today I received written notification that the OPG has reconsidered their decision (alluded to above) and will now approve the application. It might have been less time consuming to reapply, but at some point we have to stick to our guns, we cannot keep giving in!

I have had a rejection where the donor had signed the registration form Section 15 which had room for four applicants to sign ( I was using a replacement form due to another Section 11 having to be resigned by an attorney because of an error). However for some reason the attorney’s witness had also signed Section 15. I noticed this but as Section 15 is not part of the LPA I thought the second signature would not cause a problem. Unfortunately OPG refused to register it and insisted on another Section 15 being signed. Now that’s whyI call nit picking!

Just waited 40 minutes to get to number 2 in the que and then be cut off.

Unbeatable service. It’s like the ultimate form of keeping you on the edge of your seat (followed swiftly by throwing something out the window).

All over the UK clients and sometimes ourselves are paying for this wasted time.

The OPG seem to have added a extra bit to their spiel, now apologising for people being cut off and are working hard to resolve it. Following by twice cutting me off.

Can’t say they don’t have a sense of humour!
