Seeing as it’s going to get harder to send and receive post, may I suggest that we collate a list of all the telephone numbers, fax numbers and email addresses for all the institutions typically involved in a probate and publish them so that they’re available for everyone to use, e.g.
HMRC departments
The Probate Registries
The Land Registry
NS&I
DWP
Banks
Building Societies
Investment Companies
Insurance Companies
Utility Companies
It may be that STEP could contact Landmark (who do the Lost Asset Search facility), as it may be that that company already has the information collated.
Because of the risk of fraud, I very much doubt that NS&I, banks and other financial institutions would deal with closing accounts on foot of an email.
Yes, but they will correspond generally by email. If anyone would like to help me to collate the information in order to share generally with the profession, then please let me know.
I’m not sure if STEP has the facility to host a shared drive, but if so this would be a good way of keeping the contact data current. Failing this we could use Google Drives or similar - happy to set this up if people want?

I’m in the process of synthesising the document sent to me yesterday by Alison’s Trainee (and adding a few more of my own) to share here in due course.
Please may I manage your expectations a little as I’m currently a de facto sole practitioner working remotely from my personal laptop, without access to my hard copy files, therefore my client work is taking a significant proportion of my time. I’ll endeavour to have the document shared by the end of the month.
