Debts payed out from estate

Dear All

My clients informed me that they were paying coucil tax on behalf of their grandma while she was alive but in a care home and since she has passed away the payments have continued.

They now want to recover these payments from the estate.

Is this possible?

They should recover the payments from the council as the grandma was not liable since she was in the nursing home. However this will probably need to be done by grandma’s personal representatives who should reimburse them for anything paid after she went into the nursing home. If anything was paid before that, then they would have been making gifts to her and should not therefore be reclaimable from her estate.
