Executors costs of disposal of animals

I’m looking for guidance or commentary on the Executor’s duty to preserve the estate vs the duty to maintain an animal in the estate.

My understanding is that, in the absence of a specific or pecuniary legacy dealing with the animal, where the animal has no market value, that the Executor must dispose of it in the most efficient manner; preferably adoption by a rehoming charity or if there are no such charities euthanasia.

I would expect the costs of maintaining the animal until its disposal are a reasonable estate expense. Are there any cases which discuss this?

Any pointers or anecdotes that members can share would be gratefully received!

Thank you
