Form IHT 421 and application for grant

I have received notification from HMRC that the IHT 421 has been sent to the probate registry. The problem is that I cannot make my application for probate until the end of this month as you have to submit the date on which you sent the IHT 400 to HMRC.

I am asking what is the point of HMRC sending these letters or does it mean that the probate registry will accept the application earlier - does anyone on here know the position?

Claire, as HMRC has told you the form has been sent, you may need to consider adjusting the date you sent the IHT 400 to HMRC so as for allow your application to go straight away. It’s worth a try!

Worth a try certainly.

Claire.

Is it that the HMCTS probate application online system will not let you proceed past the point where you put the date in until 8 weeks have elapsed?

If so it might be worth a telephone call or webchat with HMCTS probate explaining that they have the IHT421 and requesting adjustment of the online prohibition to let you through to the next stage? There may be a delay between HMRC sending the IHT421 and the probate registry locating it on the probate system

It is a thought but tried phoning probate helpline today oon another matter but was on hold for over 30 minutes so gave up!

Kind regards,

Claire Flood.
