I am dealing with an estate where there’s a property held in France.
I am aware that we are required to pay IHT on foreign property however, I am told that the property will also be taxed under French Law. Is this correct? If so, this would mean the property is taxed twice.
There is a double tax treaty between France and the UK for inheritance tax. It can get complex. My French-qualified colleagues and I may be able to help. Let me know.
Dear Carmen,
We also deal with English speaking French lawyers who can advise. We obviously will need to know where the property is situated, an indication of value; where the deceased died domiciled; and if there is any Will dealing with the French property.
Yours sincerely,
Peter Double, Probate Resealing Services.
