Medical cause of Death Certificate - Foreign Death

Client’s mother lived abroad (Portugal) and she has only just discovered that mother had a large policy/ investment here in the UK - company does not want Grant but has asked for “Medical cause of death certificate”. The foreign death certificate doesn’t give cause of death.

The deceased, who died nearly 3 years ago, was nearly 100, so one might imagine that old age may be a pretty good indicator (!!) however they require something formal. We are trying to ascertain if there something from the hospital or find out who her GP was but are not sure we will get this.

Has anyone ever come across this with foreign deaths? The only other case I had abroad (again with no details of medical cause) involved a company who were happy for us to simply complete their form with our explanations as to circumstances.

Thanking you in advance.
