Must I submit an IHT400?

My client died owning various bank accounts and properties, all in joint names. I have no need for a Grant of Probate.

He did own shares in a trading business that passes under his Will to his daughter. The Executor derives authority from the Will, so could sign the Stock Transfer Form.

Nevertheless, do I need to submit an IHT400 to claim BPR on the shares? They are of significant value.

I can’t see a requirement to claim BPR but the starting point is that all PRs must file an IHT400 as per s.216 unless the estate is an excepted estate. If it is not an excepted estate (which turns on more information than is included in your question) then an IHT400 is due.

Thank you Andrew. Very helpful.
