We have an estate where a £20,000 legacy is due to an individual.
Initially we were unable to trace him. We instructed a tracing agent who, we believe, has found an up to date address for him. They sent a representative to the address and a lady answered the door who went to check if the individual was in “the office upstairs”. She returned and asked the representative to leave a name and number, but no one ever contacted them. On a second visit she was very vague and was not willing to provide any information.
We have since written to him at that address, but the letter has been unable to be delivered (it was sent recorded post).
Is there any alternative, other than paying his legacy into Court and, if this is the only option, how do I go about doing so?
