The G of P was issued beginning of April with a typo in the deceased’s name. We immediately submitted the request of the amendment which we were told should be about a week. Still nothing, despite submitting a complaint and asking for it to be escalated.
In recent months I received two Grants, each with a spelling error in the name of the Executor. I returned each Grant immediately and, when I had not received the amended Grant, I sent a reminder. I eventually received one of the Grants, duly amended, seven months after I had returned the incorrect Grant. In the other estate I had to make a formal complaint. This led to the amended Grant being sent to me, more than a year after I had returned the incorrect Grant. The person who dealt with the complaint said in an email that a “specialist team” has to review Grants that are sent for amendment “to ensure legal consistency” (or words to that effect). I queried this and pointed out that the amendment was a straightforward one and did not need to be reviewed by a specialist.
Before the current shambolic process was introduced, when I had to return a Grant for amendment when the error was on the part of the Probate Registry, I received the amended Grant more or less by return of post.
My client suggested that I contact my MP about this. I followed his advice and amazingly 3 weeks later I had the Grant along with £100 in compensation.
