Property valued by surveyors as leasehold and trustees purchased with the leasehold value, registered as freehold on LDR

I am a civilian and need help with a query, we did have a solicitor and funds have dried up.
It has come to light that our property was valued by a surveyor as a leasehold property, the Trustees then purchased our property using the surveyors valuation and then registering the property as freehold on LDR- GOV/UK.
All legal fee’s and sdlt was paid using our funds from a settled life assurance policy, we live in the property rent free, all improvements and maintenance and house insurance are paid using my funds, property is placed in trust by the trustees,.
Trustees are registered proprietors, also it was based on vacant possession, and 2 years before the purchasing of this property we were leasing it of the life tenant and signing a contract to this effect, the trustees have said that this contract has carried on with no need for amendments.
I didnt know until 8 years later that my funds are being used for the upkeep, and my discretionary payments which i have been deemed as receiving, are going to an estate agent who carries out the periodic house inspection.
Thanking you in advance.

I believe that it was reliant upon the solicitors who acted for you when you purchased to have proved the Title. That solicitor was responsible and now needs to correct the matter at their expense. Contact them to arrange this and let us know what the outcome was.

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately the trustees hired the solicitors, funny enough the solicitors did mention recently that they had drawn up a licence to occupy, this was sent to the trustees but not us .
Trustees never disclosed any of this to us.
