TRS - Notifying HMRC

Does anyone know how best to go about notifying HMRC when the tax position of a trust changes?

Every time I have had to contact them it’s either been long waiting times for a response via email, if at all, or incredibly long waiting times on the phone.

Anyone who has figured out the best way to do this I’d greatly appreciate the advice.

If the trust was registered as non-taxable (ie a URN was issued), it can be ‘updated’ to a taxable trust online via the Trust Register and the UTR will be generated.

From a discussion with HMRC last week, it is not possible to change a trust’s registration from ‘taxable’ to ‘non-taxable’ but by calling (lunchtime is meant to be a good time) the trust can be marked as dormant for tax purposes which should then suppress the issue of demands for an SA900 tax return
