I have my government gateway and my Agent ID but the website asks for a self assessment agent code. How do I obtain this code? The number for HMRC says it is unavailable on 03001231072

Thank you for your email Andrew, did make me smile. I have been round and around in circles on the website, on the phone for hours and still have got nowhere. It will not let me past the “what is your code for self assessment”, which I should have received on set up! The guide on the phone also took me through the steps but it stopped at the self assessment code point. Have written to them now. Will update as soon as I find out more.
Glad to know I still have a further 24 steps to go.
Once you have your agents code, you may also need to sign up for self-assessment as a service via the portal (a further fortnight waiting for a code) but that may just be us.
