Ukranian Residuary Beneficiary

I am instructed to at on behalf of sole executor (Ukrainian by birth but now a British citizen).

The Deceased, also Ukrainian by birth but was a British citizen at the date of her death has left everything to a nephew who is also Ukrainian and lives in Kyiv (but not a British Citizen).

My Deceased’s husband predeceased her and they never had any children.

A Grant of Probate has been obtained and the estate is almost finished and I am at the point of being ready to make the final distribution but I was not sure if there are any kind of sanctions checks I should be carrying out here (excluding the overseas bankruptcy checks)?

The sole beneficiary has provided ID which has been certified by Lawyers in the Ukraine and I have his BACs details but just want to ensure all appropriate checks have been carried before advising the sole executor the final distribution can now be made.

Grateful for any advices.

Kerrie

As far as I am aware, all sanctioned individuals are listed here: Financial sanctions targets: list of all asset freeze targets - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

…and all sanctioned ‘regimes’ here: Financial sanctions targets by regime - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

According to these, Ukraine is not a sanctioned regime. Belarus and Russia are. Worth doing a check on the individual in question.
