When a beneficiary dies after the testator but before the estate is administrated?

I am looking for the piece of legislation and/or case law which confirms that when a beneficiary dies after the testator but before the estate is administrated (there is a will); the beneficiaries share passes by virtue of her estate (rather than it being considered a failed gift?)
Thanks
